Trade-Routes -- Communication and transportation routes scholarly forum

About Trade-Routes
English (USA)

The Trade-Routes electronic forum provides a world-wide communications vehicle for exchange of scholarly and factual information on the history, geography, anthropology and logistics of traditional short-and long-distance communication, movement and transportation networks of the world.

The list was established on 30 April 2000 by the Old World Trade Routes (OWTRAD) Project (www.ciolek.com/owtrad.html).

The list has a special focus on research and construction of GIS-ready geo/chrono-referenced electronic data-sets on the land, river and maritime trade and pilgrimage routes of Afroeurasia and the Americas, and adjacent oceans, between 10,000 BCE and approximately 1820 CE (i.e. from the end of the Ice Age until the introduction of the land and sea transport based on the steam-engine technology). However, other topics relating to the spatial dimension of human communications are also given due attention.

We hope that each new subscriber will post an introductory message to Trade-Routes to inform us about his or her background and interests.

All messages are stored in a special Trade-Routes archive that is only open to list members.

Privacy policy: Email addresses are never sold or given out to anybody.

To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the Trade-Routes Archives. (The current archive is only available to the list members.)
